Shoreditch Bar Group (SBG) approached Carousel Lights and asked us to fill one of London’s most iconic bars – The Hoxton Pony – with neon. So we did! This is how we did it.
The brief from the brilliant client was clear – they wanted to light the whole of the bar up with neon signs and they wanted the real deal – traditional glass neon. They gave Carousel Lights a free reign on most creative elements whilst at the same time being absolutely clear about areas that were important to illuminate with the neons, namely;
We designed and produced 5 real glass neons signs for The Hoxton Pony that we’d classify as ‘decorative bar neons’ – they were:
Lucky 7 in 10mm diameter hot pink and turquoise glass.
Neon Lips in 10mm hot pink glass.
DISCO + chevrons pointing to the dancefloor downstairs in 10mm diameter hot pink and turquoise glass.
Cocktails & Dreams in 10m diameter hot pink and blue glass (700mm diameter).
Cocktails & Dreams in 10mm diameter amber and green glass (700mm diameter).
We designed and produced ‘Ride my Hoxton Pony’ in 10mm turquoise and hot pink neon glass to encourage people to head to the bar and dancefloor downstairs and to take selfies on the stunning sofa to share on socials.
Traditional glass neon ‘straights’ were produced in precise lengths to illuminate certain areas of the bar in a stunning turquoise and pink glow. Specifically, these were located around the inner perimeter of each window, underneath each bar shelf and around the back of the sofa bench seats
Turquoise neon straights were produced and installed around the perimeter of the whole building facade frontage, giving The Hoxton Pony a stunning look after sundown and making it stand out from the crowd in its prime location in Hoxton, London.
We designed and produced a projecting sign for the facade of the bar using black powdercoated steel with a mesh to give it an industrial feel. We then fixed clear red neon Bar lettering to each side of the sign to make sure it was visible to passers-by irrespective of the direction they were walking.
The end result is a jaw-droppingly cool ambience that reall makes The Hoxton Pony glow in one of London’s most popular areas.
