Carousel Lights was approached by the client, asking us to supply large architectural signage for the building facade and above the entrance to the foyer. The Bernie Grant Arts Centre is a purpose-built multi-arts centre located in Tottenham, London. Named after the local MP who represented the constituency and started the initiative before his death in 2000.
One of our areas of expertise is working on large-scale signage projects with multiple stakeholders. In this instance those separate stakeholders included;
Carousel Lights – Signage supplier.
Bernie Grant Arts Centre – Building owner.
Civic Engineer – Create, improve and protect our lived environment.
Architect – Urban design.
Haringey Council – Local Authority.
BERNIE GRANT ARTS CENTRE – External above-foyer signage.
Block font was used which was the client’s own design. Each letter was 500mm high with the whole phrase measuring 9.2m wide.
Powdercoated horizontal steel bars were used to fix each letter to, with LED modules being used to internally illuminated opal acrylic faces.
BERNIE GRANT ARTS CENTRE <<< – External building facade signage.
The same block font was used for this signage with BERNIE GRANT being 418mm high and ARTS CENTRE <<< being 810mm high. The top edge of BERNIE GRANT was located 7.38m above ground level so suitable access equipment was required for the install.
Clear power requirements were worked out in advance for both sets of lettering.
“BERNIE GRANT ARTS CENTRE <<<” was powered by 5 of 12V 5A 60W CE-marked transformers, each of which connected to a 240V supply. This was the large sign of the side of the building.
“BERNIE GRANT ARTS CENTRE” was powered by 3 of 12V 5A 60W CE-marked transformers, each of which connected to a 240V supply. This was for the smaller sign located above the theatre foyer entrance.
